Is birth at home safe or not?

There has been much discussion about a recent article saying that home birth is risky for babies. Unfortunately, there are flaws in the analysis. Here is a link for one discussion.

Midwives Object To Analysis Of Risk To Babies Born At Home

Exciting new changes are on the way!

I am just back from an inspiring trip visiting midwives in another state.  Now that I am finished with school, I am excited to expand the services that North Colorado Midwifery can offer.  I am working on revising the pages of the website, so come back and see the new services being offered.  Let me know if you like the new look so far.

This interview clip is part of Rites of Passage, an exclusive video series and art/photo/ essay contest that engages mothers across the country in a dialogue about childbirth and the transformation of new motherhood. This series is hosted by Mindful Mama and features exclusive interviews with 25 of the world’s leading midwives, physicians, activists, and scholars who advocate for safe, empowered birth. Can midwives reduce cesarean rates?

Grassroots Network Message 903011
From Citizens for Midwifery:
CDC releases birth stats for 2007

Dear Friends,

Today the CDC released the Preliminary Data for births in 2007. The birth rate is up, and so is the cesarean section rate, now nearly 32% of all births: “The cesarean delivery rate rose 2 percent in 2007, to 31.8 percent, marking the 11th consecutive year of increase and another record high for the United States.”

The CDC’s press release is included below. And you can find the entire report at http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr57/nvsr57_12.pdf

Sincerely,
Susan Hodges “gatekeeper”

Can midwives reduce or change this trend? Instead of coming up with the words, I will point in the direction of the experts for now.
