The CPM credential is a process of educational requirements combined with a clinical component that is administered by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). Verification of education and skills is required by qualified midwife preceptors, and the clinical skills are tested by a qualified evaluator. When that process is complete, the written test is taken. After passing this test and qualifying as a CPM, the application is made for the Colorado Registration for Direct Entry Midwife. Credential achieved 2006.
